A DS3 is a fiber trunk that has the capacity
to run up to 45MBps. A burstable DS3 is billed at a set baseline
and allows the client the ability to take advantage of up
to 45MBps on an as needed bases. However, the client is only
billed for the baseline plus overage usage. It can be a good
solution if the entire 45MBps is not always needed.
A DS3 can also be a multiplex, to utilizing the multiplex application it allows the client to provision a DS3 into their facilities and allow up to 28 T-1s. All 28 of these T-1s are available for different services. These T-1s can be used as the clients need them, for both voice and data. It is entirely up to the client how to provision a multiplex DS3 to best fit their circumstances. They are in fact the local loop that will support the customers’ services.
